Alternatives to the Infamous Ariana Grande "Cloud" Perfume

Indulgent whipped cream, sunny bergamot, and creamy coconut. As a senior on a college campus, this fragrance has a clutch on young women. The perfume is none other than Cloud by Ariana Grande. I have no beef with her perfumes. I own Moonlight and enjoy wearing it very much. I have seen this pattern before with people my age being drawn to a common fragrance. However, the ‘cloud’ that follows us around needs some altering. We are all unique, therefore we should smell unique. You are different from your best friend, you should not be wearing the same perfume. It’s okay if they have the same notes, but you are two different people with different identities. With that being said, I want to introduce some similar perfumes to women who wear Cloud and explain why these perfumes are similar but different in a superior way. 



Fresh Cream Eau de Toilette by Philosophy ($54)

Notes: Whipped Cream, Butter Cream, Tonka Bean

This perfume has the sweetness that Cloud has if that is what you love about it. It is a gourmand scent. If you can notice from the notes, this is a straightforward fragrance, but that means it is great for layering with moisturizers, which is a way you can enhance the longevity of the fragrance. It is only available as an EDT (Eau de Toilette) which means that it may not last as long as the Cloud since the Cloud is an EDP (Eau de Parfume). Fresh Cream is distinguished from Cloud because it has a tonka bean, which in this fragrance adds to the sweetness. Cloud has more musk and woody notes to it. If you want to be licked like a cupcake because you smell like frosting, this is the perfume for you!



Pistachio Brulee Eau de Parfum by Le Monde Gourmand ($25)

I am not a huge fan of gourmand scents but I wear this one to bed all of the time. I find it quite cozy to spray on after a long day and snuggle in my bed with a cup of hot tea and read a book. This fragrance is on the affordable side, which is a plus for the girlies trying to smell yummy on a budget. It is similar to Cloud, with the same milky notes, and the sweetness dominates but isn’t overbearing. When you layer the nuttiness with the milkiness, you end up smelling like gelato, but not like Coldstone! You might be a little lickable if that is what you are going for. Get your hands on this gem!





Coconut Cove Eau de Parfum by Skylar ($90)

Notes: Coconut, Bergamot, Cardamom, Gardenia, and Woody Notes

I know this price is a bit jarring compared to the affordability of Cloud. However, this fragrance is more complex and it is also a clean fragrance. So, if you are looking for a clean brand or you are sensitive to scents, this might be an option for you. There are two commonalities with this fragrance and Cloud - coconut, and bergamot. Bergamot is a citrus scent, similar to lime or a lemon, but a bit sweeter. Fun fact - bergamot is what gives Earl Grey tea its distinct flavor. Coconut Cove is a step up from Cloud because of its floral coconut notes without the sweet whipped cream topping. You will still smell yummy but more like a hot model running off on the beach in SoCal. 



Skin Eau de Parfum by Clean Reserve ($44) 

Notes: Salted Praline, Fresh Musk, Copaiba Oil

This perfume is subtle and enhances the smell of your own skin, as you may have guessed. The similarity to Cloud is in the note of salted praline. If you are still getting familiar with this note, walk into a candy store. Praline smells of brown sugar and pecans with butter. That is what makes it a gourmand. In this case, since this perfume is so simple, it melts with your skin so naturally. No one would suspect that you are wearing perfume at all. It’s the “clean girl aesthetic” for perfume. I know a lot of clean girlies that wear Cloud and I would honestly pick this for before Cloud. It is way less intense and more understated. Match your perfume to the rest of your lifestyle and get this literal Clean girl perfume. 


Hopefully, I have inspired you to step out of your little cloud and try something new. This scent is popular for a reason. I will admit that Cloud does smell good, but as we grow up we have to start being individuals and find our stride on this earth. Doing what we have done since middle school, all of us wearing the same Victoria’s Secret, Pink, and Bath and Body Works body sprays has to come to a close. It does not matter if you are on a budget. You can still smell like an individual. Do not be afraid to be different and be you.
